2009 is the first vintage of this fine expression of Viognier. A warmer than average year, but given the altitude of the vineyard site and well timed irrigation we obtained a fantastically uniform ripening with no disease problems. Grapes were hand picked in the early hours of the 14th September from the single estate of ‘Finca del Val’ situated at 950 metres. Grapes were stored at 0 degrees for 48 hours in a cool room before gentle crushing and maceration pelliculaire for a further 12 hours. The must was then cold settled and fermentation took place in mainly neutral oak barrels with 1/3rd new oak barrels used. Wine was then aged ‘sur lie’ with batonnage for a further 3 months before minimal fining, light earth filtration

Pronounced varietal aromas of peach and honeysuckle, well integrated oak character with complex notes of ginger spice and jasmine. Full bodied, yet elegant, with crisp acidity, fresh stone fruits and a long mineral finish.
The highly aromatic and fruit forward nature of the wine allows pairing with spicy foods or Asian cuisine. The subtle floral notes make it a perfect match with sushi and sashimi.

Lovely nose – very much an aroma of lime cordial – it smells so fresh and beautiful. Pretty, with a really nice texture on the palate, this is a great example of the variety that is often so big and peachy and sickly and flabby when it’s made in an ‘international’ style. Hats of to the flying Scotsman.
